The beauty of deer and how they are at risk

Nature is something that has always been explored throughout time. It is beautiful, never ending and always surprises you. Around the world there are many places, which serve as the home to various animals with special and unique features.

From one side of the planet to the other, there is always something waiting to be discovered, you may even find something lurking in your garden, whether it be a bird, or maybe a squirrel. There is always something just waiting to be found, and if you’re lucky enough to live in a forest-like area, you may even experience an animal sighting first-hand.

One of the most common animals found in forests, especially in the UK, are deer. They are beautiful creatures that majestically leap through these tree-filled areas. One of the most interesting features of deer is that their coat colours vary depending on the season; some can be a rusty red colour in the summer and a darkish brown in winter, whereas others may vary in colour throughout the year from a bright red to a dull, slate grey. They also have quite large heads with wide-spaced brown eyes as well as the species’ most distinguishing feature, their antlers. Amina Dilmohamed explained how "spotting deer is truly a magical feeling and an experience you will never forget." She also explained how "we should be working towards protecting them and building a better habitat for them instead of ruining them."

Due to the clearing of trees and vegetation in forests, the homes for these animals are being destroyed and subsequently, their numbers are decreasing drastically in number. Hunters also hunt deer for their antlers which they only keep as prizes or trophies. Therefore, it is essential that us humans prevent the effects of deforestation as well as the hunting of animals from affecting all animals, and eventually leading to the extinction of certain species.
