On Monday the 13th of December, Bentley Wood High School participated in the Santa Dash, organised by St Luke’s Hospice, showing solidarity over charity.
The philosophy of engagement involved a 5km walk/run advertised by the local charity, appealing for participants in order to raise funds. The novelty event was hosted on the 12th of December around Pinner, where volunteers were given Santa suits to dress in, along with medals for those who finished.
On the 12th, the route was set to begin, however a ‘Virtual Santa Dash’ further enabled schools and businesses to participate, by allowing individuals to complete the event at convenient times. Bentley Wood registered for the 13th, in hopes to raise money through sponsors and donations. A sixth former at the school, Mariamsarah Rafaideen, stated that the charity’s “really touching cause”, of providing palliative and end of life care, stemmed her desire to help with the event. Rafaideen deemed the opportunity as “exciting and rewarding”, which is why she recommends “other people to get involved in charity events.”
Whilst the total sum of donations has not been finalised, the leaders have forecasted to have generated well over £100. Furthermore, donations are still being raised, despite the dash having finished, as Bentley Wood's Fire house aims to continue helping the charity as frequently as possible.
