Old Parmiterians’ Netball Club

A netball club in Hertfordshire has widened opportunities for girls’ sport for Parmiter’s alumni with the Old Parmiterians’ Netball Club, offering training and league matches.

Established in 2020 by Jenna Parkinson who wanted to see more women playing competitive sport and has loved the opportunity to offer a club, Old Parmiterians’ Netball Club has allowed Parmiter’s alumni as well as some current students to get involved in netball. It has empowered members to get back into netball training and playing competitive sport in an environment which promotes not only physical fitness but also socialising with your teammates.

Jenna Parkinson said: “It has been great to see students and teachers play together, it’s such a lovely environment where everyone is welcome and gets on so well.”

England Netball, the national body for netball in the country, reported that roughly 685,000 women and girls in the UK play netball each week, during the season. A key reason why netball clubs like the Old Parmiterians’ Netball Club are open to everyone, is because of the decline in participation in sport, for many girls, after they leave school and the compulsory sport offered there. Like many other sports clubs, at the Old Parmiterians’ Netball Club, all ages and all different experiences in netball are welcomed for development in the sport.

League matches introduce some for the first time and bring many members back to competitive sport: to develop dealing with pressure, adapting to different situations and resilience. Then the next training session is structured to improve match play, whether that is fitness, tactics or set plays.

The Old Parmiterians’ Netball Team is now in their second season as of 2022 with their highest number of members so far. Old Parmiterians’ Netball Club are always welcoming new members, so follow them on Instagram @oldparmiteriansnetball to get involved!
