Magic in the City

With risk of a second cancelled Christmas we struggle to find ways to get in the Christmas spirit. We find ourselves searching for ways to feel this Christmas glee. The Elves' Experience is here to help. Westminster City Council have launched a spectacular AR experience over four publicly favoured locations in London. Leap into the extraordinary world of the Elves by visiting any of the four landmarks- Piccadilly Circus, Marble Arch Mound, Soho Square and Hanover Square. Visit one or as many as possible for the perfect way to immerse yourself in Christmas cheer. Not only is this an excuse to journey around London and encircle yourself in the prepossessing Christmas lights but the easy-to-use technology brings Santa's enchanting elves to life for your little ones. Simply by scanning the QR code found at each location and then by clicking “launch” Santa's little helpers will appear in 3D on your screen! Follow the instructions given by the elves and watch a different scene at each location such as watching Santa and his reindeer take off in his sleigh, peering inside Mr Claus’ own workshop, snowball fights and even seeing Santa himself. The family friendly and totally free experience was created by Nudge. Commenting on the launch, Chief Digital and Innovation Officer, Aruj Haider says: “Christmas is such a magical time of year in London and our Westminster Elves aim to spread a little extra festive magic across four of our most beloved landmarks. We hope families and visitors can get out and about in Westminster this year, soaking up its festive atmosphere.” Whilst mainly being aimed at young children the adults are not forgotten. If you want the chance to win a £50 Love To Shop voucher, you can. By taking a photo of you, a family member or a friend with the Elves and posting it on twitter, instagram or facebook using #WestminsterElves and tagging ‘@CityWestminster’ you're in for a chance. This competition closes at midnight on Wednesday the 22nd of December and the winner is announced on Christmas Eve. The competition plus the whole experience could possibly make your Christmas that bit more special. Cabinet Member for Finance and Smart City at Westminster, Councillor Paul Swaddle, explains how the experience is a “New, free and innovative way for people to enjoy Christmas in the West End safely this year.” He continues by stating “Our aim with this AR project is to create innovative spaces where the local community and visitors can come together, and is part of our wider Smart Cities initiative, which aims to create an inclusive smart city for anyone who lives in, works in or visits the city.” Get involved before it's too late.
