Light up Christmas at Waddesdon Manor

Waddesdon Manor is a National Trust site located in Aylesbury. The manor was opened to the public in 1959; it is home to a collection of paintings, sculptures, and decorative art pieces.

The house opened its Christmas light show on Saturday 12 November, and it will last until Monday 2 January 2023. The ‘Christmas spectacular’ includes a new route of the east wing in which guests can experience the house’s festive glory, with beautifully decorated Christmas trees.

The winter light trail invites guests to be immersed in nature with ‘Miss Alice’s Drive’ being transformed to showcase small green and silver tree decorations hanging from the branches above. Surrounding trees are lit up in a variety of colours ranging from blues to reds. Guests have the chance to walk through a tunnel of gigantic stars, which twinkle and glow with colour.

For a limited time only, the manor plays host to a Christmas Market situated in the front gardens of the manor. The market brings together many small businesses selling a plethora of items ranging from baked goods to bespoke jewellery.

Local primary schools contributed to a number of pieces through the light show. This included a display of lanterns in which children had written why they were unique.

Additionally, the manor held a competition in which a number of photographs, which were taken by children, were displayed on route; the public were able to decide which photo they thought was best!

Angela Wilson, who was there with family and friends, describes the light show: "Very atmospheric, the lights were dazzling with imaginative designs.” She further added: “It was very interactive. My favourite part was the glitter ball and the children’s lanterns which were guiding us through the trail."
