International Wrap Artists (IWA) is a Mexican restaurant that sits on the seafront at Margate. Ray Marino and Alexandria Tait-Russell met in 1990 whilst working and have more than 30 years of experience working together. Nicholas March (a Michelin-trained chef) joined them to create the perfect team for this restaurant.
Marino said: "I wanted to create a brand that was more authentic to the LA taquería-style food”. This is what differs the restaurant from other less authentic ones.
The restaurant is cleverly designed: there is the main bar away at the front and at the back, there are more tables for families and friends wanting to eat a meal. This separation allows people to choose their setting tailored to their mood. The menu ranges from tacos to nachos and even classic Mexican drinks. The prices are reasonable as well, considering the quality of these meals. The service is quick, and the employees are always welcoming.
The music that is chosen is especially important. The soundtrack is specifically set around hip hop however, it varies to reggae or even 80s music. This helps to set the mood.
There are many colourful artworks in the restaurant such as a Mona Lisa which has been changed to Snoop Dog. This emphasises the hip hop theme of the restaurant. It sets a cool and informal tone for visitors. The restaurant is becoming a popular destination because it is always packed with people wanting to try something new.
