Giving joy this Christmas

For many families, Christmas is a time for presents and cards and visits from Father Christmas. From endless Christmas lists to frantically tracking parcels, this is all part of the magic of the festive season. But for some, buying presents is simply unaffordable.

This is why Stripey Stork is so important. As the charity’s founder Nicola Dawes said, "Christmas is a time of additional pressure. If you’re already struggling to make ends meet then presents under the tree, Christmas jumpers and Santa visits are just out of reach."

Aiming to help local children have a magical Christmas, Stripey Stork invites people to purchase gifts from their Santa Shop, which are then given to local families across Surrey. This means children will have something to open on Christmas day, despite financial struggles after Covid and the ending of the furlough scheme. Achieving this is no small feat: this year Stripey Stork has already received requests for over 5000 children. With their gifts ranging from lego to art sets and chemistry kits to lava lamps, the gifts that are bought through the Stripey Stork website are distributed directly to the children who may not otherwise receive anything. This is not all; Stripey Stork supplies wrapping paper and tape so families can get involved and make sure that ‘it’s Christmas giving with choice, dignity and care.’ As a local charity, Stripey Stork relies on the community. They work with a range of companies, community groups and schools as well as having a team of volunteers who would all put Santa’s workshop to shame, they are so efficient and organised! Stripey Stork is there to support local families all year round but at Christmas their work means that thousands of children will have something to open on Christmas morning and can hopefully have a magical holiday. As children across the country open their stockings and tear open their presents, the work of Stripey Stork means that so many more get to experience that Christmas joy.
