Come and visit Greenwich SAMPLE market

Updated: Feb 24, 2023

In the heart of Greenwich peninsula, urban designs spring to life with the SAMPLE market. Every weekend, pop up stalls fill the square leading up to the O2 arena. Beautiful artwork is put on show. You can browse handmade designs, and purchase freshly baked goods that have been made by London's best up and coming traders. This market lures in visitors and brings a sense of community for the residents as everyone gathers round to buy organic food and beauty products.

SAMPLE market is curated by Hemingway designs, a group of graphic designers aiding the long term regeneration that has brought about the urban community that stands today. The seasonal market has officially kicked off its autumn sales, ready for the Christmas boom that is soon to come.

As soon as you step out of the tube station your ears are filled with music which is soundtracked by local DJ’s. The focus on sustainable retail, slow fashion and promoting emerging businesses creates a healthy and happy space for everyone who visits.

Duygu Gökpinar is a frequent seller at SAMPLE. She has been doing punch needle embroidery for 5 years and has written her own punch needle book. She says that this location is perfect for two main reasons and added: “Not only is it quite a busy location, but I love working here because you can come here and enjoy the outdoors and have a chance to shop. As well as that, the transportation is very easy, you just have the tube right here. The market is the ideal location to both buy and sell."

Not only does the market provide a space for stalls to thrive in this busy town, but it also fuels the entertainment nearby. Occasionally, SAMPLE organises creative workshops for like minded aspiring designers. There is also a series of talks, mainly focused on sustainability and our environment.

On October 22nd, the market held a ‘How to Crochet’ workshop by Peju Obasa. This event taught visitors a useful skill which can help them to focus on sustainability - a prevalent topic given our current climate crisis. Peju Obasa uses her Nigerian roots and her knowledge from her travels to bring culture and diversity into her artwork. This workshop was open to all adult visitors and took place alongside the other art based events at this location.

This autumn market truly brings the energy to Greenwich Peninsula and allows the community to gather around to boost their weekend spirits. Whether it's delicious bread or ceramic earrings, SAMPLE will definitely have something for you.
